7 Steps to Increase Windows 7 Speed

‘7’ steps to Increase Windows 7 Speed

1. Disable the Aero theme:

Though, the aero theme makes your interface impressive. It consumes a good chunk of RAM in the background. So you should be ready to compromise on looks to squeeze out the speed from your Windows 7 .
To disable aero theme:
·        Right click on your desktop and then select personalize and  select window color
·        Click on “ Open classic appearance properties for more color options”.
·       Then select “ Apply a standard or basic theme “  .
This must boost up your PC speed considerably.

2.    Turn off unused services:

By turning off the unused services, you can save a good amount of RAM used by these unnecessary programs. Access the services wizard by pressing the “ windows key + R “ and then type “services.msc“ .  From the listed services , you can disable (or better change it to manual) the unused services like Servers (if you are not connected to a network), Print Spooler  ( if you don’t use a printer) etc.
See the list of the services that you can disable with out affecting your system here .

3. Disable unwanted programs from auto starting:

You can disable the unwanted programs from auto start by  pressing the “ windows key + R “  and then  “msconfig” and then select the Startup tab and uncheck the programs that you don’t want to start on system start up. This method also frees up the RAM, thereby increasing the speed.

4. Use ReadyBoost  utility:

ReadyBoost is a great utility that helps significantly speeding your system performance .By turning on this utility, you can use an USB flash drive as an extra RAM. It creates a page file on your USB Flash drive and it uses the flash drive as an extra memory (like RAM). So it speeds up the system processes.
To turn on Readyboost :
1. Plug in your Flash drive in to your system.
2. In the Auto play window, select Speed up my system in General options .
3. Then in the properties window, select ReadyBoost tab. Select Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost or Use this device.
When you select Use this device option, you will be able to allocate the amount of memory that the computer can use it for ReadyBoost..
Tip:
1. Use Flash drives with a minimum memory capacity of 2GB; otherwise it will slow your system performance instead of increasing it.
2. You must use a USB Flash memory which is compatible to ReayBoost . See the list of flash drives compatible to ReadyBoost.

5.  Clean up your hard drive :

Low free disk space left on your hard disk (especially on your OS drive) can affect the speed of your system .  Free the disk space by using  Disk CleanUp tool  on your windows 7 ( which can be accessed from START –> ALL PROGRAMS –> ACCESSORIES –> SYSTEM TOOLS ) or use a free ware like CCcleaner .

6.  Defragment your disk regularly:

Disk fragmentation slows up the overall performance of the system. It decreases the speed of access of the data. To defragment the drive, you can use the  Disk Defragmenter of your windows  ( which can be accessed from START –> ALL PROGRAMS –> ACCESSORIES –> SYSTEM TOOLS ).

7. Check your system for spywares:

Spywares not only collect your personal data, it also slows down your system performance. So use an antivirus or an anti-spyware program like Spyware Doctor or spyware terminator (a freeware).
